Tim Hernandez

Tim works as a part-time music indus­try attor­ney orig­i­nal­ly from Louisiana and lives part-time in Mexico’s Mayan Riv­iera.  At present he works most­ly doing music and tech­nol­o­gy tran­scrip­tion­al work for U.S. clients.

Tim has near­ly 25 years of expe­ri­ence work­ing as a music law attor­ney in the music indus­try. In pri­vate prac­tice he has rep­re­sent­ed artists, pro­duc­ers, record labels and pub­lish­ers and oth­er relat­ed indus­try clients. He worked for near­ly 7 years he worked for UMG and their record label Inter­scope Gef­fen A&M Records in both their Copy­right Depart­ment and Busi­ness and Legal Affairs in San­ta Mon­i­ca, Cal­i­for­nia. Fol­low­ing his time Cal­i­for­nia, Tim moved to Nashville, Ten­nessee where he was also admit­ted to the state’s bar.

After a brief stint at Coun­try Music Tele­vi­sion he began his own small legal prac­tice that includes doing con­tract “back office” busi­ness and legal affairs work for small record labels and pub­lish­ers.  He received is B.A. from Louisiana State Uni­ver­si­ty in 1990. While at Louisiana State Uni­ver­si­ty, Tim served as the stu­dent gov­ern­ment pres­i­dent. He received his J.D. from Loy­ola Uni­ver­si­ty New Orleans in 1994. Tim was admit­ted to the Louisiana Bar in 1994 and the Ten­nessee Bar in 2007.  Before begin­ning his legal career he worked as an aide to U.S. Sen­a­tor John Breaux and two oth­ers.

Tim has lec­tured at Loy­ola University’s Music School and has been an adjunct pro­fes­sor at at Mid­dle Ten­nessee State Uni­ver­si­ty’s Record­ing Indus­try Depart­ment.
